Imagine this… It’s almost midnight on a Friday. You look to your friend who is seated across from you. Empty bottles of Modelo Especial stand like bowling pins on the dining table, just shy of a complete arrangement. Your eyes meet, and you know she’s thinking the exact same thing you are: What are we gonna eat?
The two of you agree to continue the Mexican-themed affair. But while it’s easy to find a monster vegan burrito or plant-based tacos al pastor in Los Angeles (see Sugar Taco, Gracias Madre, and El Cocinero Restaurant), your current dilemma is the late hour. Enter Doomie’s #NextMex, open until 1 am.
In your altered, gluttonous state, only the most epic dish will do. You scan the menu: combo plates, wet and chimichanga burritos, flautas, quesadilla, taco salad (no vegetables tonight! 🙅🏻♀️), ceviche, and tacos eight different ways. Wait, nacho fries? I think this might be the one.
Fast forward about 30 minutes. You peer into the black to-go container, your eyes bulging and your mouth watering. Before you, no less than a couple pounds of soft, slightly crispy French fries piled high with fresh-cooked beans, creamy queso, diced tomato, crema, and chopped cilantro (hold the onions and jalapeños for me, please). It’s the moment you thought couldn’t come fast enough. As if reaching for the first block in a game of Jenga, you eye your first fry and wiggle it free. One taste and you conclude, Success. Beer munchies satisfied!
