LOS ANGELES, CA
In town for the 2023 Animal & Vegan Advocacy Summit, we ended four days of back-to-back sessions with lunch at Cafe Gratitude in Venice.
We heard from so many amazing activists and animal rights movement leaders, like Melanie Joy, Jo-Anne McArthur, Ryuji Chua, and David Coman-Hidy, former president of The Humane League. As inspiring as it all was, by Sunday, we were fried.
So, having a chance to sit down together for a delicious meal on a lovely LA afternoon was calming and much-needed.
We sat in almost complete silence, Allie savoring her I Am Content Spinach & Olive Quiche, Meghan devouring her I Am Festive Chilaquiles—the best she’d ever had, she exclaimed—and me, testing my spice limits with the I Am Valued Chorizo Breakfast Burrito.

Where and when to get a taste of gratitude
There are three Cafe Gratitude locations for your dining pleasure: Venice, Larchmont (also LA), and Newport Beach.
Pro Tip: Visit Venice or Larchmont for happy hour from 4p–7p on weekdays for a discounted selection of wine, draft beer, and bites. The shareable plates include I Am Delectable Spiced Corn Ribs, I Am Invigorated Shishito Peppers, and I Am Lucky Korean Pulled Mushroom Sliders.
You’re catching the theme now, right? Cafe Gratitude came up with dozens and dozens of positive affirmations for every dish, dessert, smoothie, and more. ✨

For more deliciously kind vegan eats on the Westside, check out Satdha Kitchen in Santa Monica and Shojin in Culver City.
Note: All restaurants featured in DINING OUT are vegan. I made an exception for Cafe Gratitude, which is technically plant-based because they include honey in several of their coffees, tonics, and teas. Where applicable, honey is clearly listed in the item’s description.
