DEAR GOD, THANKS FOR THINKING UP LOVE

This message of gratitude was printed on the gift bag my mom used for Romeo’s fourth birthday present, along with an image of a young girl and her puppy. Romeo’s presence in my life couldn’t be summed up more perfectly. The day I met him, saw his irresistible face, and took him home with me was not planned at all. I had wanted a dog for a really long time but didn’t feel that I was ready for such a huge responsibility, or that maybe I worked way too much. Now I can’t imagine how hopeless I would be without my dearest pal. Sure he gets on my nerves sometimes and it’s like having a roommate who doesn’t pay bills or ever pickup after himself, but he also cheers me up when I’m down and reminds me to live in the moment.

Little Romeo Einstein Mozart, his full name inspired by the star-crossed lover, the wacky-haired physicist, and the musical genius, has a big personality and an even bigger heart. I love him so much. Such a deep affection and appreciation for his intelligence are hardly possible without viewing other animals in this same light.

When I look into Romeo’s eyes, I see that we are all connected. I never expected to be an advocate for animals, a voice for the voiceless. At times, being vegan in a world that puts convenience and pleasure above all else is downright depressing, so I consider myself lucky to have a furry friend to help keep me going.

We love hiking, road trips, tofu, cuddling, lying on the beach, sleepovers at Grandma and Grandpa’s house, driving with the windows down on warm nights, and playing tug of war. With his outrageously good looks, Romeo gets away with a lot. Many shoes have been chewed, poops dropped in inappropriate places, and boundaries broken. And I NEVER get the last bite of a meal anymore!

We also enjoy exploring Los Angeles and any other town we happen to find ourselves in. Two things Romeo doesn’t like: vegetables and putting on a leash. I’d let him roam free if I could, but because he has such a terrible habit of puffing out his chest at big dogs and shouting to let them know he’s in charge, he’s gotta wear one. Sorry, Romeo.

The boy is an athletic pup and helps me stay active; we sometimes compete with one another. Although my mom thinks I should let him win every once in a while, I tend to take advantage of the weight differential.

My copilot. My ride-or-die. He looks so happy in this photo! That or between the heat, fur coat, blanket, and fuzzy bed, he’s actually hyperventilating, not smiling. 😳

Whelp, that was the best I could do in narrowing down all of my favorite pictures. I’m warning you now—I’ll be thinking up ways to sneak in a few more on the blog. Hugs and kisses from me and Romeo! 🐾 🤗 💋

Sharing is caring. 💜

  1. Such a heart-warming story…I absolutely LOVED it!!! And the pics too! You AND Romeo are so special! Keep up the great work!

  2. Not only did I enjoy the pictures of Romeo but I loved your story about how he stold your heart. More importantly it sounds like he is great company and trust me our pets know when we are down and in their own way try to cheer us up. What a blessing. Congratulations on joining the vegan world. Little by little and through good information this world can be changed by changing our eating habits. I love the pictures of the different dishes and restaurant information. Thank you!
