WASHINGTON, D.C.
I’m gonna take a quick moment now to say RIP to the camera I used to snap some truly great shots during our adventures in DC. No, they weren’t all food pics. We trekked the full length of the National Mall, paused to admire monarch butterflies exploring the manicured gardens of the Smithsonian Institution Building, climbed the steps of the Lincoln Memorial at dusk, and visited the impressive Library of Congress.
Yes, a few tears were shed when I realized I had lost the camera on my flight home to Los Angeles. Now I’m feeling bummed all over again remembering the photos I took at CityCenterDC, where we grabbed a quick breakfast at the uber healthy, fast casual restaurant Fruitive. For the fall season, Palmer Alley is decorated with a colorful canopy of umbrellas—dozens of yellow, green, orange, red, and purple parasols intersected with strands of cafe lights. But here, check out these mediocre photos of my cold-pressed juice instead. 😉
Southwest Quesadilla
Fruitive’s menu is 100% plant-based and organic. They partner with local farmers and suppliers who care about the purity of their soil and offer products that are both sustainable and nutrient-dense. In addition to cold-pressed juices and “liquid meals”, aka smoothies, their menu includes toasts, waffles, overnight oats, superberry bowls, salads, sandwiches, pour-over soups, wraps and collard tacos. I chose the Southwest Quesadilla—whole wheat tortilla, cashew cheese, wild rice, black beans, corn salsa, red pepper, caramelized onions, and pico de gallo, served with guacamole and cashew garlic sauce. 😋
I’ve been on a very long junk food binge, cooking few meals at home, but I’ll always value the healing power of the right ingredients. On this morning I was still recovering from flu-like symptoms so I opted for Fruitive’s Immunity Plus to kickstart my body’s natural defenses. The spicy, sour blend includes only four simple ingredients, but plenty of health benefits.
- GREEN APPLE boosts immune system, enhances energy, aids in weight loss, promotes heart health, protects brain cells, anti-aging
- LEMON alkalizes the body, purifies the blood, strong detoxifier, promotes brain function, boosts immune system, fights infection, supports lung health
- GINGER fights nausea, reduces inflammation, boosts immune system, alleviates gastrointestinal distress
- CAYENNE curbs appetite, anti-inflammatory, fights headaches, strong decongestant, cleanses lymph nodes, boosts immune system
Pro Tip: Fruitive offers $1 credit to customers who bring their empty juice bottles back to any location for recycling. And Fruitive is growing. There is a location in Virginia Beach and two in Norfolk. You can also find them at farmers markets in Silverspring, MD and throughout DC.
