SPIRAL DINER & BAKERY: FEEDING TEXAN HERBIVORES FOR 20 YEARS!

On a short weekend trip to Dallas for a friend’s baby shower, I managed to squeeze in Sunday brunch at Spiral Diner & Bakery. It gave me that warm and fuzzy feeling of being home amongst fellow veggie eaters.

I loved everything about this retro diner—and so did many others. Every table was filled, along with a waiting list of people of all ages and backgrounds. It made me happy to see such a diverse group embracing plant-based food.

Viva Las Migas

Spiral Diner & Bakery started serving up vegan comfort food all the way back in 2002, with its flagship location in Fort Worth and another in Denton, TX.

The menu includes everything from burgers, sandwiches, nachos, and salads to Hell’s Half Acre: breaded soy chik’n strips cooked in Spiral’s homemade BBQ sauce, your choice of pasta or potato salad, mac n’ cheese, grilled broccoli, Texas toast with pickles, and pickled red onions on the side.

Disco Hash

And a diner wouldn’t deserve the title without serving breakfast all day. We tried the Disco Hash—hash browns, Daiya cheese, and gravy—and Viva las Migas—loaded tofu scramble, topped with avocado and sour cream, and served with your favorite carb. Both were amazing.

Our binge didn’t stop there. We also had pancakes, sausage, a chocolate shake, and a brownie sundae. If I didn’t have to rush off to the airport, I would have gladly stayed for lunch and dinner.

And did I mention that they have a bakery? Yup. You can choose from Neapolitan, Rocky Road, Banana Split, Chocolate Orange, and about 25 other flavors of cakes and cupcakes. Spiral, I miss you already and can’t wait to visit again!

⭐️ Must Try: Pancakes!

August 2022 news flash from Spiral:
We have something serious we need to discuss. This will be our last week open at our Dallas location. It’s not because we don’t love you, it’s just that our lease is over. We’ve been together for almost 15 years and have loved every damn minute of it. But all good things and 100-year-old buildings must come to an end. Please don’t be sad!

We can still see each other at our Denton and Fort Worth locations 7 days a week. We’ll also get to see you at our new location in Arlington sometime next year! Not to mention our two new concepts arriving early 2023, Maiden: Fine Plants and Spirits and Dreamboat Donuts & Scoops. These two you can find right behind our Fort Worth Spiral location. So we can all still be together.
