Come one, come all. Ziggy’s is serving hot vegan takeout for your slow and easy days, when all you want to do is have fun. 😎 Leave the dirty dishes and cooking for tomorrow!
Like their playlist, Ziggy’s menu is a mash-up of cultural influences and artistic experimentation, from traditional burgers and shakes to Ratchet Fries and Crunchwrap Supremes.
Sometimes Wu-Tang, sometimes The Clash, sometimes Marvin Gaye. Sometimes Madonna and sometimes Doja Cat.
KCK Salad
Veggies on Veggies
Highly recommended: The sweet and spicy KCK Salad will load you up on nutrient-dense fiber and still satisfy your rebellious food cravings. Enough for two, the bed of kale tossed in ranch is topped with Korean fried cauliflower and drizzled with gochujang sauce.
Cruciferous veggies abound in the specialty Ziggy’s Cauli Bowl: popcorn fried cauliflower; steamed Brussels sprouts, carrots, and broccoli; steamed rice; spicy orange gochujang sauce; green onions; sesame seeds.
If you’re curious like I was, gochujang is a Korean staple—fermented chili paste made with red chili powder, glutinous rice, fermented soybeans, and salt. The ingredients blend together for a sweet, spicy, and savory taste.
Breakfast. All Day Every Day.
Ok. While the Ziggy’s breakfast menu is limited to two items, IMO they’re the only two options that would hit as hard at 8 pm as they do at 11 am.
The first is the Breakfast Burrito. Impossible breakfast sausage, Just Egg, and tater tots with a side of house-made salsa. Number two is the Breakfast Sandwich—a Farb’s bun stacked with Impossible breakfast sausage, roma tomato, and Just Egg and smothered with garlic and chipotle aiolis.

Ziggy’s has a second location in Paso Robles. Follow them on Instagram to keep tabs on seasonal specials, like the Shamrock Shake, Serrano Egg Rolls, and Lumpia Plate—or just to tease yourself daily. 🤤
Exploring the City
SLO Farmers’ Market, Every Thursday Beginning at 6 PM
For a fun twist on your weekly grocery shopping or date night, you gotta stroll this five-block stretch of more than 100 vendors. In addition to the market’s homegrown produce, small-batch goods, bouquets, and crafts, downtown’s Higuera Street is lined with bars, restaurants, and shops. So you can catch the sunset while picking pristine plums and peaches or sipping on a hazy streetside as the wave of shoppers flows by.
This night market operates year-round. Sellers pack up by 8:30 or 9 depending on the season.
Hidden Gem: Avila Beach
From Ziggy’s, cruise 10 minutes toward the Pacific and you’ll hit Avila Beach, a darling oceanside community. It’s just a short stretch of sand and waves bound by a rocky bluff and several shops dealing in wine, souvenirs, and such.
Having lived nearly all of my forty years in California, hitting Avila Beach held the excitement of discovering someplace new. Someplace special in its own unique way. Quaint and quiet, and reserved for the adventurers pursuing paths less traveled.
First Things First. Coffee.
Looking for a caffeine fix, I shot straight to Kraken Coffee Company on Front Street. The oceanic vibe here is pronounced but tasteful and fun. No need to fear—the sea monsters are limited to wall art and branded tees.
In addition to espresso and drip coffee, the shop has a short menu of pastries, burritos, and ice cream. Since Avila Beach has a population of fewer than 1,400 people, I was super stoked to see they have a vegan burrito available for starving herbivores.
Sitting barside on the second floor, sipping my oat latte with a view of the ocean beyond, I could imagine myself as a modern-day pirate or one of the Goonies or even Top Gun instructor Charlie waiting for Pete Mitchell to cruise by on his Kawasaki Ninja 900.
Afterward I hustled down the beach for a few quick pics before we had to hit the road again.
Peace and love.
